Our route so far…

Today we cycled one of the most amazing roads in the world. The Transfagarasan Highway rises almost 2000m above the valley to pass over the Muntil Fagaras, in central Romania. After 31km of climbing on switchbacks, the view from the top is breathtaking. And it’s then followed by 60km of downhill.

Romanian Hospitality Part II

We just used warmshowers.org for the second time and stayed with the lovely Familia Moga. As well as having 4 cows to make their own milk and cheese, they had 6 kittens who delayed our departure by about an hour.

Yesterday evening, we got caught in a thunderstorm trying to find a road out of Lascud. This was one of the many occasions in Romania where we would try to follow a minor road marked on the map, only to discover that it doesn’t actually exist in real life. We asked directions from some locals…

Drum Bun

We entered Romania with a sense of trepidation, having been warned that cycle touring in the country could be a difficult experience. So far, we have had an amazing time here. Beautiful roads, quiet rural towns and very friendly locals, always willing to point us in the right direction and wishing us ‘Drum Bun’.
